Workshops: Flora – 2 day workshop

Inspired by the small flowers in African violets this floral necklace incorporates a variety of techniques and unique materials to create a wearable necklace design. The small flowers, stitched in chevron chain, are woven onto a lattice panel with faceted crystals embedded in the centers. Each panel is attached using bars encased with tubular peyote stitch. The necklace is WireKnitZ® fine knitted mesh looped around the last panels and terminating with a floral clasp stitched in tubular peyote with a magnetic closure inside.

With an experienced eye, Melanie brings her couture sewing background and sense of color theory and design to developing aesthetic ways of using beads in unique, contemporary jewelry. The possibilities of producing three-dimensional structural forms from a variety of bead types, shapes, sizes, and colors are endless and offer a wonderful creative challenge.
