And the Winners are…
|
Judith M Millinery Supply House hosted a WireKnitZ Hat Contest in celebration of their 20th Anniversary and to introduce WireKnitZ to the hat making community. The two winners were determined on November 4th and are featured below. Judith M and WireKnitZ posted regularly on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, HATalk Social and LinkedIn. Why is this important? Because thousands of peeps saw each entry’s design!
See the entries on Facebook.
The Professional Category Winner…
Congratulations Hannah Bledstein from Slightly Bent Designs for your unusual and imaginative use of WireKnitZ and attention to detail!
A mini top hat constructed of millinery wire, WireKnitZ #2010 Henna Brown,
yarn and braided elastic.
Before Hannah became a freelance milliner, she built muppets at Jim Henson in NYC, was a costume crafts artisan at the Guthrie Theater in MN, the Denver Center for Performing Arts, and Shakespeare Festival in Boulder, CO. Currently, Hannah teaches millinery at the University of Illinois at Chicago Theatre School and builds hats for some of their productions. Over the years, Hannah has had many opportunities to experiment with new materials, and learned of WireKnitZ through Judith M’s hat contest.
The Facebook Fan Category Winner…
The Judith M Millinery Facebook Fan favorite was Cathy Fellows with her “Underwater Currents” entry. An Ocean inspired fascinator created from navy sinamay, horsehair, feathers and WireKnitZ #2008 Champagne and #2106 Chartreuse.
Cathy has been a seamstress and involved with making costumes for community plays for years. Her recent interest in hats began with fascinators for friends and her daughter’s wedding. Now with the encouragement of family and friends, Cathy is ready to taker her hat making to the next level.
Keep up the good work, Cathy!
We hear Judith M is already planning another WireKnitZ hat contest for 2015… We’ll keep you posted! You can also subscribe to Judith’s newsletter.
My sincerest appreciation and gratitude to Judith and Melissa of Judith M Millinery Supply House for introducing the millinery community to WireKnitZ and for so expertly organizing, implementing and hosting the first WireKnitZ Hat Contest! I would also like to thank Milliner Laura Hubka for creating the first “inspiration” hat to kick off the contest, and for co-judging the professional category with me.
Many thanks to the other participants for entering and sharing your vision and hope you will continue to stretch the limits of your imagination with WireKnitZ! And to those that placed orders in hopes of entering the contest, you may have run out of time, taken a detour or fallen off your original train of thought. Just keep in mind, there’s always next year!
Best wishes, Norma
